It warmed this planner nerd’s heart to read about how these amazing Olympians use journaling of various kinds not only because they like it, but to reach the crazy levels of achievement that make them among the world’s greatest.
Read all about it here. Some highlights below:
Olympic silver medal winning high jumper Nicola Olyslagers’ tracking system
Olyslagers has been seen writing in a notebook after every jump. When asked about it, she said she gives her delve a rating out of 10 for every single component of the jump. Her coach says it helped her stay in the mindset of focusing on what she needed to work on. Olyslagers says it’s her training diary and sports psych, helping her manage the highs and lows of the completion.
“Once I write it down, it’s like as soon as it is on a piece of paper you don’t have to put it into your mind and can just think about other things,” she said.
Heptathlete Anna Hall’s affirmations
According to this piece, Hall’s entry just before qualifying for the 2024 Olympics was a powerful series of affirmations: “This is my event, my title, my spot. I’m gonna take it,” she wrote. She also has an entry that says, “Today, I will become an Olympian.” And that she did!
Sprinter Zharnel Hughes also takes a forward looking approach
He not only writes down his aspirations, but has a vision board that serves as a roadmap to his success. He even posts photos of his planner:
Surfers Griffin and Crosby Colapinto and their guided journal
I learned from this piece that the Colapintos not only love to journal, but MADE one for the rest of us! Their Website is on pause at the moment but here’s more about it:
Crosby shares a familiar sentiment about the value of journaling:
“The journal, I bring it everywhere because it’s almost like an outlet. Whenever I feel like I’m a little bit off or something’s on my mind, I write it down and I feel way better after because I’m getting it out of my head,” he said.
